Asbestos Shed & Outbuilding Removal in Surrey, London & the South East
Sheds, barns, and outbuildings with asbestos panels removed and cleared. Garden tidied. Everything disposed of properly.
Sheds and outbuildings are often full of hidden asbestos
Thanks to its excellent insulation properties and high resistance to heat, asbestos was commonly used in sheds, barns and outbuildings across many domestic gardens. The risk is not always obvious from the outside, but these materials can pose a significant health hazard if they are disturbed.
If you are thinking about demolishing a structure in your garden, professional asbestos shed removal should always be carried out first. At Clearaway we can safely inspect and test the building to confirm whether asbestos is present before any work begins, then either remove the asbestos-containing materials on their own or carry out full removal and demolition of the structure.
Garden sheds, workshops, and small outbuildings built before the mid-1980s regularly contain asbestos cement panels, the walls, the roof, or both. Some were purpose-built with asbestos materials; others were cobbled together from leftover sheets taken from other demolition jobs, which was common practice at the time. The problem is that they deteriorate quietly: the shed sits at the bottom of the garden for 30 years, gets ignored, and by the time someone wants it gone the panels are cracked, mossy, and crumbling. That is when the risk increases.
We strip the asbestos panels carefully, working from the outside in. Roof sheets come off first, then wall panels. Everything is double-wrapped and labelled. The timber frame and any concrete base are demolished and removed separately.

Barns and larger outbuildings
Agricultural barns and larger outbuildings across Surrey and Sussex often have asbestos cement roofing, sometimes covering a substantial area. These are bigger jobs than garden sheds but follow the same principles. Strip the asbestos first, then demolish the remaining structure.
Access can be more complicated on rural properties. We bring our own equipment and can work on sites where large vehicles cannot reach. If scaffolding is needed for a tall barn, we arrange that as part of the quote.
We have removed asbestos from barns, stables, workshops, greenhouses, and storage buildings across Surrey, South London, and Sussex. Each job is different but the process is consistent: survey, quote, remove, dispose, certify.

Our Removal Process
From first call to final certificate, every job follows the same clear four-step process.

Survey
We inspect the property and confirm the material. Sampling available if required.

Quote
Fixed written price covering removal, disposal and any replacement work.

Removal
Material is removed safely, double-wrapped and taken to a licensed disposal facility.

Certificate
You receive a waste consignment note and disposal certificate confirming legal handling.
Garden clearance included
When we remove old or disused garden structures, we occasionally come across asbestos that was used in the construction at the time of building. If you suspect asbestos might be present in your garden, please call us straight away and do not be tempted to remove or dispose of it yourself; disturbing it can release fibres into the air. Clearaway Asbestos is fully equipped to deal with the safe removal and disposal of asbestos and asbestos products.
Once the structure is gone, we clear the site. That includes removing rubble, levelling the ground, and taking away any associated waste. If the outbuilding was surrounded by overgrown vegetation, we can clear that too so you are left with a usable garden space.
The whole job, from stripping the asbestos through to clearing the site, is covered in a single fixed quote. You do not need to book separate contractors for demolition, waste removal, and garden clearance; one team handles the lot.
